Usage Guide

Convert WebP to lossless PNG for editing and fidelity. Batch, local. Animated WebP exports only the first frame.

1. Flow

  1. Drop WebP files.
  2. Convert to PNG.
  3. Download individually or in batch.

2. PNG vs JPG

For casual viewing with smaller files, prefer WebP→JPG.

  • Further editing / cutouts.
  • Need alpha.
  • Sharp UI/chart edges.

3. Animation and alpha

Animated sources keep frame one only. Verify alpha on a dark backdrop.

4. Why convert

Downloads are often WebP; older office/CMS stacks still need PNG/JPG.

5. Pair tools

  • Smaller share → WebP to JPG.
  • Web slim → PNG to WebP.
  • iPhone stills → HEIC converters.

6. Batch privacy

Fully local. Keep the original WebP as a master.

FAQ

Lossless with respect to the existing pixels: static WebP is decoded pixel by pixel and re-packaged without new compression loss. The output is usually larger than the source WebP — that is simply how PNG trades size for fidelity.

PNG has no animation track, so only the first frame is exported. To keep the motion, use a GIF or video pipeline instead; confirm beforehand that all you need is the cover frame.

When the file still goes into a design tool for layer edits or cutouts, when transparency must survive (logos, UI assets, stickers), for sharp edges like charts and screenshots where text must not blur, or when the downstream system explicitly requires PNG. For content that is only viewed and can tolerate loss, WebP to JPG usually saves bandwidth.

That is the norm: WebP excels at compression while PNG excels at fidelity. Record the before-and-after KB in your changelog to judge whether a batch is worth converting at all; if the consumer only displays the images, WebP-to-JPG is the better deal.

Check the edges against a dark background first — light previews easily hide semi-transparent noise. Gray edges usually come from premultiplied-versus-straight alpha differences in the source; fix that on the export side instead of re-converting here repeatedly.

Inside this tab: decoded and re-packaged locally, with no server involved. For large batches, watch memory and tab lag and convert in chunks; keep the original WebP as a master copy so you can re-export with a different strategy later.
