Usage Guide

In parking, insurance, and violation-check forms, the plate number is the most typo-prone field. This tool validates GA 36-2018 locally: province glyph + issuing-office letter + 5-char serial (no I/O), plus the new-energy 6-char serial — D/F leads the serial on small vehicles (D = BEV, F = PHEV) and terminates it on large ones.

1. New-energy position rules

The D/F slot is positional, not free: on small new-energy plates it is fixed at serial position 1, on large ones at the last position — so 京AD12345 is a Beijing small BEV while 京A12345D is a large one. No other serial position may carry D/F (ambiguity rule), which is why 京AD2345F is rejected.

2. Plates carry no checksum

Unlike ID cards or credit codes, a plate is a registration sequence, not an algorithmic encoding — there is no locally computable check digit, so this tool does strict format validation (province table, office letter, serial charset, energy-position rules). Whether a plate is actually registered requires the DMV registry and is out of scope; the no-I/O serial rule is nationwide and catches most typos instantly.
