Usage Guide

Turn text, links or Wi-Fi details into a QR code image for sharing and printing, generated entirely locally. The error-correction level decides how much damage a code can survive; always test-scan with a real phone camera before delivering.

1. Steps

Always test-scan before delivery: looking fine on screen does not mean it scans in print — size, contrast and the quiet zone all matter.

  1. Enter text or a URL
  2. Pick an error-correction level (M or Q if unsure)
  3. Generate and download the image
  4. Test-scan with a phone camera

2. Choosing an error-correction level

L recovers roughly 7% damage, M about 15%, Q about 25% and H about 30%. Choose H for print that will get worn; H raises dot density, so the same content needs a bigger code and scans harder. M or Q is plenty for screen sharing.

  • Harsh environments (enclosures, workshops) call for H
  • Do not pick L just to shrink the image at the cost of scannability

3. Content types and format strings

Plain text and URLs work as-is; Wi-Fi, email, phone and vCard each have their own format-string syntax (e.g. WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;). Escape special characters such as semicolons per the spec, or scanner apps will parse the wrong fields.

4. When a code will not scan

Try another phone first to rule out focus issues, then shorten the content or regenerate with a higher error-correction level.

  • Content too long, dots too dense
  • Low print contrast (light colored background)
  • Quiet zone (margin) cropped away
  • Glare or folding on the code surface

5. Print and long-term placement

Keep print size to scan distance at least 1:10. Short-link QR codes die when the short-link service does; a QR encoding a token or signed URL leaks credentials if it escapes — rotate the link before posting it long-term.

6. Privacy and related tools

Generation is fully local — nothing is uploaded; watch screenshots, recordings and printouts for content with personal data or secrets. For styled codes use the QR Code Designer, and to read an image back use the QR Code Decoder.

FAQ

No payment and no account. The QR code is rendered into an image by your own browser, the input never passes through any server, and it's ready whenever you need it.

URLs, plain text, email addresses, and phone numbers all work; size and error correction level are customizable, and the result downloads as a PNG. Scenarios like joining Wi-Fi rely on a special format string — paste the assembled string as text and scanning apps will recognize the format.

Four levels — L (low), M (medium), Q (high), H (highest). Higher levels survive more local damage but produce a more complex code. Error correction has limits, though: heavily soiled codes can still fail to scan, so test with a real phone camera after generating.

Three usual suspects: the content is too long, which makes the code more complex — trim whatever you can; the print contrast is too low, since light backgrounds or color printing can hurt scan rates — always confirm with a real camera scan; and damage or occlusion where it's displayed, which is what the error correction level is for. Very large text input can also lag the tab, so trim the content before generating.

Generation happens locally, but the finished code loses that protection the moment it leaves the page: the downloads folder, clipboard, screen sharing, and recordings are all second-hand leak paths. Clean up temporary files after use, and never paste debug samples straight into public tickets.
