Usage Guide

Hand-writing pipe tables for READMEs and PRs is error-prone. Paste CSV/TSV or edit a visual grid, set alignment and header mode, and copy GitHub-flavored Markdown — local, no upload.

1. Two modes

Spacing is for humans; renderers need matching pipes and a separator row.

  1. CSV mode with delimiter.
  2. Editor mode with add/remove rows/cols.
  3. Set alignment and header toggle, then copy.

2. Alignment

GFM alignment lives in the separator row colons.

  • Left names; right numbers; center short tags.
  • Mixed per-column alignment is a hand edit.
  • Header toggle controls row one.

3. From spreadsheets

Confirm delimiter; split wide tables; escape literal pipes.

4. Downstream

Add a one-line caption stating what question the table answers.

  • to-json/csv for machines.
  • markdown-preview to verify.
  • html-table-to-markdown for migrations.

5. Mistakes

A missing column is often an unescaped |.

  • Missing separator rows.
  • Uneven column counts.
  • Local draft is not a backup.

6. Workflow

Commit before bulk edits; prefer surgical Markdown edits over full re-exports.

FAQ

Yes. CSV mode accepts comma-, semicolon-, or tab-separated text with a delimiter control; the visual grid editor lets you edit cells directly and add or remove rows and columns with buttons.

Alignment is chosen once for the whole table and written into the separator row as colons (:--- / :---: / ---:). For mixed layouts such as names left and numbers right, hand-edit the colons in the separator row after generating.

Check first for an unescaped pipe | inside a cell; pipe syntax treats it as a column boundary and splits the cell. Then confirm every row has the same column count and that the separator row sits under the header — without it, some renderers treat the second row as plain data.

Spreadsheet copies are usually tab-separated, so pick the delimiter carefully; locale decimal commas and thousands-separator spaces can sneak in as well. Wide tables wrap awkwardly in mobile previews — split them into two tables or link a CSV attachment instead.

Yes. Turn off "first row as header" and the first row is emitted as data, which suits matrices that never had a header. Drafts are kept by the local session, but do not assume they survive switching browsers or clearing site data.

Neither. It opens ready to use at no cost, and your table content stays in the browser on your machine.
