Usage Guide

Visually tune flex container and items, then copy CSS — local.

1. Build

Use grid for true 2D.

  1. Set direction, wrap, justify, align, gap.
  2. Tune per-item grow/shrink/basis.
  3. Copy CSS.

2. Patterns

  • Top bar space-between.
  • Column + margin-top auto footers.
  • flex 1 equal columns.
  • Prefer gap over margin hacks.

3. Three axes

Main distribution, cross alignment, wrap+gap cover most cases.

4. Item controls

  • align-self for one-offs.
  • order vs a11y reading order.
  • grow/shrink 0 for fixed icon columns.

5. Pair tools

Grid for 2D; px-rem for spacing tokens; test real content lengths.

6. Responsive

Generator output is a starting point.

  • Column on narrow screens.
  • Preview wrap early.
  • Commit breakpoints in the repo.

7. Reminder

min-width 0 often unlocks stubborn shrink bugs.

FAQ

No fee and no sign-up: tuning, live preview, and code generation all run locally in your browser, with no usage limits.

Container-level flex-direction, flex-wrap, justify-content, align-items, align-content, and gap; each child can be tuned individually for grow, shrink, basis, and self-alignment. CSS is generated instantly as you adjust visually.

Top bar: space-between plus a centered cross axis. Pushing card buttons to the bottom: column direction with an auto top margin. Equal columns: set the items' grow to 1. Prefer gap over propped-up margins for spacing — gap doesn't collapse, sparing you the collapsing and double-margin headaches.

The classic cause is the interaction between basis and min-width: the content's minimum width props the item open, and resetting min-width to 0 is usually the unlock. Also note that grow and shrink both at 0 leaves an item close to fixed-size — exactly what icon columns want.

Use the item-level self-alignment (align-self) instead of changing the container alignment and dragging every item along. The order property can change visual order, but the accessibility reading order may not follow — think it through before relying on it.

Two things: retest wrapping with real content lengths — the short placeholders in the generator will never expose a long title blowing out the row — and add the key breakpoints: narrow screens often need a column direction and tighter gaps, and breakpoints belong in project styles, not in a generator session. For two-dimensional layouts switch to the grid generator, and use a px/rem converter when gaps must land in design tokens.
